Toe-ing the Line

Those of you who know me know that I'm not big on rules, but even I cannot avoid the US Post Office regulations.  I needed to make some cards for a friend that would be completely mail-able without extra postage or a trip to the post office.  So, I put on my thinking cap and had to stretch myself to make something that was flat, but still had some "Lori" zing.  I'm really pleased with the result.  I used the Stampin' Up Hostess set called Because I Care and stamped it with Crumb Cake ink.  I then added some Rich Razzleberry ink with a marker using the thumping technique.  (I just thumped the stamp with the marker and little splotches of color appear.)  Then I just had to add some bling with some champagne shimmer paint.  I used a piece of crumpled plastic wrap to add shimmer in just a few spaces.  Love it!  Add the main image to some DSP, ribbon and pearls.  So simple and so fab-u-lous.  I will be making more for my Mom and myself.

Patriot Fair Goodies

Here is a scrapbook that is going into the Silent Auction at Thomas Jefferson Elementary this Saturday.  All of you who are local to the Lynchburg area should come on out between the hours of 11-2 and bid on some wonderful items like braces (yes, I mean orthodontia for crooked teeth), jewelry, chairs, vacations, meals, goodie baskets of all kinds and a few lowly items donated by yours truly.  All proceeds go to our PTA to help our school.  We will have food from Chick-fil-a and Upper Crust Pizza and tons of family friendly games.  We will even be giving away home-made cakes at the cakewalk.  Come on out, bring the kiddos and enjoy a family and budget friendly day.  Call me if you have any questions  434-525-6203.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner and a B-Day

I just wanted to share that I am now the proud parent of a pre-teen.  My oldest son, James, turned 11 (yes, eleven) yesterday.  I can honestly say that he's a great kid.  He gets good grades, is a good citizen, and is still loads of fun to be around.  However, I can't forget that he is MY son and eventually MY genes will assert themselves and then watch out world!!!  I just hope his Dad's gene's keep him from getting into as much trouble as I did (do???).  I never have been good at following rules.  Anyways, here is the card I made for him and then I added his favorite gift of all---cold, hard cash.  Below is the  inside of the card, but I won't share all of the mushy stuff I wrote.  He'd die of embarassment, now that he's almost a teenager and all.

Now, onto the winners of some Blog Candy.  I drew 2 names from the hat and....drumroll...the winners are Jetti and The Worst Mom Ever, Really.  Both of you, please contact me at lsnjsubosits@verizon.net to claim your prizes.  Congrats.

Bee Happy and some Blog Candy!!!

I have a case of Spring Fever due to the 70 degree days here. My tulips are coming up and my fingers are itching to dig in the garden.  The ground is still too wet, but it won't be long with these warm windy days. I have to say, I have really been loving my recent purchases from Close to My Heart.  The Sophia paper is so girly and spring-y.  I used it for all of these cards and have lots more to use.  I was in a coloring mood, so I embossed the Bee Happy stamps from CTMH and colored with my blender pens.

I have been wanting some Copic markers but don't have an extra $300 laying around.  Does anyone with gas and food prices on the rise?  Since I don't have the Copics, I used my Stampin' Up markers with a little trick.  The trick is to make a pool of marker color on something like your acrylic blocks and then pick up the color with a blender pen.  This mutes the color and actually allows it to fade from a darker to lighter shade.  Of course, you need to start coloring at the edges where you want the most pigment and then move inward to the center.   I have also found that making small gentle circles helps.  You also want to allow the paper to dry between colors to prevent the paper from pilling up into little balls.  Another trick when coloring is to give it a fine outline with a gray shade to add depth.  It really fools the eye.  Don't forget to leave a comment this week for some blog candy.  I'll pick a winner on Sunday.
